Nutria Trapper Dallas Sherman Plano Irving TX
This little invader is one of the large rodents from South America is now found as far North fas Oregon and Michigan , and being reported in several parts of the Continental United States announced in the Journal of Wildlife Management, Frank G. Ashbrook of the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
The management of the nutria is approaching alarming levels in some locations that a Sheriff in Jefferson parish has been behind his department and the public in the hunting down of the nutria anywhere in his parish and news like Local Sheriff shots nutria families that reside in drainage canals are common everyday stories.
The nutria will eat and destroy everything in their path and failure to remove these non native critters will end up in total destruction of unprotected forests , swamps and woodlands. This pesky little rodent is like a beaver but not as sophisticated since they do not build dams and could care less where they live and always on the move .
Nutria are not native to the United States, they are a pest, that’s why they are being shot rather than moved. Nutria are a foreign species that is destroying the natural habitat of our native species.
The loss of the wetlands and marshs have nothing to do with why the nutria are in the canals, and the nutria will live anywhere they can be in water. The nutria are a contributing factor to the loss of the wetlands because they eat a very large amount of the native plantlife that helps to hold the marsh together. That added together with how quickly they reproduce, equals a serious problem with the nutria here in United States.
Part of the answer to getting control of the Nutria is for the public at large to learn and understand the Nutria simply does not belong in the United States and they should be hunted and trapped for their nuisance damage to public and private lands, their fur and their food value. This is not a species that needs to be managed but with goals of total eradication of this species in the United States.
